Born in New York City, Michael Goldberg studied art at The Art Students
League with Robert Brackman (1938) and José De Creeft (1946–47), and also
studied with Hans Hofmann (1940–42, 1948–50). A second-generation New York

Joan Mitchell. He participated in the historic 1951 Ninth Street Show and
joined the Artists' Club in 1952. His first solo exhibition was held the
following year at Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York. Goldberg’s most
