Michael Goldberg
Untitled

Born in New York City, Michael Goldberg studied art at The Art Students League with Robert Brackman (1938) and José De Creeft (1946–47), and also studied with Hans Hofmann (1940–42, 1948–50). A second-generation New York School painter, Goldberg is often considered with the group of artists that includes Norman Bluhm, Grace Hartigan, Al Held, Alfred Leslie, and Joan Mitchell. He participated in the historic 1951 Ninth Street Show and joined the Artists' Club in 1952. His first solo exhibition was held the following year at Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York. Goldberg’s most recent exhibition was Lynn Umlauf, Michael Goldberg, Painting & Sculpture in October 2008 in Saint Peters in Lubeck, Germany. An upcoming exhibition will be at Manny Silverman Gallery in Los Angeles, California on July 13, 2009 and another at Knoedler Gallery in 2010.
